A Vietnam
War Memorial has been created by Harriet Beekman. Dedicated
in 1970, it is located in the Fairview Park City Hall.
Classmate Steve Sarossy, a friend of Mrs. Beekman' son,
wrote home in 1967 saying that no one cared about those
fighting in Vietnam. That prompted Mrs. Beekman to start
sending care packages to all those serving in the military
from Fairview Park. In 1968, Steve was killed in action.
Everyone in Fairview Park was heartbroken. She and others
have worked diligently to continue this tradition. She
provided the list of those who have served from Fairview
Park. Her son is Ernie Pyle 66, named after his famous
uncle. Ernie served two tours of duty in Vietnam as a Green
Beret &endash; Ranger. To learn
